India, the rich land of glorious history and courage, which has attracted invaders from Central Europe and Asia who create their imprint on this land, its religions and its lifestyles over forty centuries. By this Indian celebrates more festivals than any other country. So nonetheless, Indians are known to celebrate all the festivals with great fan fare and importance.

Here in India all the fairs and festivals celebrated have a theme and origin, all they have a moral, a truth of life, a base and some fairs of them are generally celebrated only for enjoyment but have a theme to be originated before. Famous fairs and festivals of India are described below….

Pongal : The famous and main festivals of the of the Tamils with the message and significance of the end of the harvest season and bringing the prosperity and happiness. Pongal is celebrated as a family festival. Surya Pongal, the second day, is dedicated to the worship of Lord Sun, the God. The cattle are colorfully decorated with flowers on the third day called that is called Maatu Ponga.

Onam : Onam, the glorious and famous festival of Kerela, is the main center point of attraction for peoples and that is not only from India but also outside India. Duration of the festival is generally from 4 days to the 10 days. Every entertaining activities during this season are celebrated as spectacular processions of caparisoned elephants, worshipping, music, dances, sports, boat races and good food. It is celebrated in the Malyalam month Chingam. The merry making nature of this festival is spectacular snake boat racing on river Pampa. It is celebrated with full of joy, by decorating their houses and by making delicious foods and sweets which is specially served on the banana leaves. One important thing that would be easily visible outside each house is the ‘pookalam' a flower mat.

Dussehra :
Dussehra, the most significant and important Hindu festival, celebrated across the nation with more devotion and gaiety. It is a sign of victory of Lord Ram over devil Ravana, a sign of victory of good over evil and light over darkness.

Gangaur : 'Gan is a synonym for Lord Shiva and 'Gaur' or 'Gauri' for Goddess Parvati, the consort of Lord Shiva and a symbol of conjugal bliss and marital happiness. A festival that is celebrated during the March to April in Rajasthan – a majestic land of India that marks the end of the winter and the coming of spring and a time of sprout forth new leaves by the trees.

Camel Fair :
The Camel Festival, a famous and unique festival of Rajasthan, begins with a colorful procession of bedecked camels, Ships-Of-The-Desert, in the red sandstone backdrop of the Junagarh Fort. It is celebrated in the open sand-spreads with the various activities of the camels that display a great footwork and dancing gracefully to the silent directions of their riders.

Teej :
It is dedicated to the goddess Parvati, basically a women festival, and commemorates the day when she was united with Lord Shiva. It is celebrated in the Hindu month of Shravan and marks the advent of the monsoons. You can see the charm of the festivals by the devotees that completely embedded with the lush and rich traditional dress and ornaments.

Kite Festival :
It is celebrated internationally, the sky is flooded with the kites like as resembling colorful birds, celebrated on the day maker sankranti which is still alive in India during festivals with the sheer experience of joy at the end of the winter and the hope for bright days a head.

Other than the customary fairs some established festivals include elephants, camel races, dance and music.
